Ajay Arasada: Directors are My Mentors in Music
Ajay Arasada, a talented music director, is carving a niche for himself in the film and web series industry. With an inspiring journey from being a software engineer to a full-time music composer, Ajay’s dedication and passion have led him to compose music for several acclaimed projects, including the periodical web series “Vikkatakavi“ on ZEE5, which premiered on November 28.
In an exclusive chit-chat session, Ajay shared insights about his musical journey, his mentors, and upcoming projects.
A Musical Journey Inspired by Family
Ajay Arasada’s love for music began at home in Visakhapatnam (Vizag). “My aunt and sisters used to play the veena. Watching them closely during my childhood nurtured my interest in music. Through keen observation, I gradually began learning,” shared Ajay.
Although initially inclined toward learning the guitar, Ajay started teaching himself after basic training under Sharath Master. His time at GITAM University for engineering gave him opportunities to collaborate with music bands, further honing his skills.
From Software Engineer to Music Composer
Ajay began his professional career as a software engineer at TCS, where he worked from 2011 to 2018. Despite a demanding job, he pursued his passion for music by working on short films. This experience provided a strong foundation for his transition into the film industry.
His breakthrough came when director Pradeep Advaith recognized his talent after hearing a 30-second music piece. Ajay got his first big opportunity with “Jagannatakam” and never looked back. His journey was further enriched by collaborating with his childhood friend and fellow music director, Sricharan Pakala, on projects like “Goodachari.”
Signature Works and Vikkatakavi
Ajay’s portfolio includes impressive projects like “Ksheera Sagara Mathanam,” “Nede Vidudala,” “Missing,” and “Sriranganeethulu.” He also composed music for popular web series like “Save the Tigers” (Seasons 1 & 2) and the recent “Vikkatakavi.”
Speaking about Vikkatakavi, Ajay said, “This project was unique because it required a periodical musical style. The music needed to transport the audience to a bygone era, which was both challenging and exciting.” Ajay attributes much of his growth to directors, who he considers his mentors. “Every project offers a new perspective, and working closely with directors helps me explore fresh dimensions of music,” he remarked.

The Turning Point: “Aay”
Ajay’s work on “Aay” further showcased his versatility. Bunny Vas, the producer of the film, noticed his talent after hearing the background music for “Missing.” Ajay was initially asked to compose two songs but later took charge of the film’s entire music and background score.
Creating music for a comedy film like Aay was a significant milestone. “The success of Aay made all the hard work worthwhile,” Ajay reflected.
Inspiration and Mentorship
Ajay draws inspiration from iconic music director Devi Sri Prasad. “He is truly an inspiration to me,” Ajay shared, highlighting the profound impact Devi Sri Prasad has had on his musical style.
Upcoming Projects
Ajay is currently working on exciting ventures, including “Three Roses Season 2” and two new web series for Aha. Additionally, he is in talks for several film projects. “I’ll share more details soon,” he teased, hinting at a busy and promising future.
Conclusion
Ajay Arasada’s journey from engineering to the film industry is a testament to passion and perseverance.
