“My Character In Sing Geetham Is Truly Unique; No Indian Film Has Attempted This Before” – Ahalya Bamroo
Legendary filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is coming up with his prestigious project Sing Geetham. Produced by Nag Ashwin under the renowned banners Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema, the film features Ayaan, Ahalya Bamroo, and Shalini Kondepudi in pivotal roles. Rock Star Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music. The teaser and songs released so far have received an overwhelming response. The film is all set for a worldwide theatrical release on June 11. Ahead of the release, actress Ahalya Bamroo interacted with the media and shared insights about the film and her journey.
Tell us about your background?
I am from Puducherry and grew up in an international community where people spoke English, French, Bengali, and several other languages. Honestly, I never planned to become an actress. I used to create content on Instagram, and Nag Ashwin garu came across my content and approached me for this film. Interestingly, I even gave my audition through Instagram.
Since Sing Geetham is a film rooted in music, it immediately resonated with me because I love singing and playing the guitar. I felt it would be a wonderful way to begin my journey in Telugu cinema. When I heard that it was directed by Singeetam garu, produced by Nag Ashwin garu, and backed by Vyjayanthi Movies, I agreed without a second thought.
How was the experience of working with Singeetam Srinivasa Rao garu?
It was an absolute privilege. He is an extraordinary filmmaker with an incredible sense of humor. His films have always been ahead of their time, and Sing Geetham is no exception. This is a concept that Indian cinema has never attempted before. It is remarkable that even at the age of 94, he continues to think with such creativity and modernity.
How did you feel on your first day on set?
I was quite nervous because I didn’t know Telugu. However, the entire team made me feel comfortable and welcomed me like family. Before the shoot began, I started learning Telugu online, and that helped me a lot. I can now speak and understand a little Telugu.
Tell us about your character in the film.
Everyone knows how beautifully Singeetam garu writes his characters, especially female characters. They are always strong and independent. My role in Sing Geetham is very different from the conventional heroine role. She is someone who knows exactly what she wants and has a strong personality.
Another interesting aspect is that the film also features a female antagonist, which is quite rare. The story has universal appeal and will connect with audiences of all ages. From children to adults, everyone will enjoy this film.
What would you like to say about Devi Sri Prasad’s music?
The songs “Emainadi Emainadi” and “Hello Basu” have already received a fantastic response. Devi Sri Prasad garu has delivered something truly special for this film. He is a genius composer, and the music in Sing Geetham is beautiful, fresh, and unique.
How would you describe the film?
Sing Geetham belongs to a very new genre. Audiences have not seen a film like this before. It offers a completely fresh cinematic experience, and I hope everyone watches and enjoys it in theatres on June 11.
How involved was Nag Ashwin in the project?
Nag Ashwin garu’s involvement was incredible. He is a huge admirer of Singeetam garu, and his passion for cinema is evident throughout the project. He interacted with every actor and offered valuable suggestions. While the direction was entirely handled by Singeetam garu, Nag Ashwin garu ensured that everything required to make the film the best it could be was in place. He played a vital role in the creative process as well.
Tell us about the producers.
Working with prestigious banners like Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema has been a wonderful experience. Priyanka garu and Swapna garu are extremely warm and friendly. They constantly strive to bring fresh and unique stories to audiences, and I’m grateful to be part of one such project.
What films have you worked on before?
I previously worked in a Bollywood film directed by Shoojit Sircar, starring Abhishek Bachchan. Sing Geetham is my second film overall and my first Telugu film.
What do you think about the Telugu film industry?
I love South India, and Telugu audiences are incredibly passionate about cinema. It is a pleasure to work in an industry where films are celebrated with so much love and enthusiasm.
What is your dream role?
I love action films and would love to perform action-oriented roles in the future.
Who is your favorite Telugu actor?
I really admire Mahesh Babu. He is a brilliant actor.
What are your upcoming projects?
I am currently working on a Tamil film.
