Bunny Vas Highlights Revenue Gap Between Malayalam and Telugu Cinema
Malayalam star Tovino Thomas headlines the upcoming big-budget entertainer Pallichattambi, which is gearing up for a grand pan-India release. Produced by Noufal, Brijeesh, Chanukya, Chaitanya, and Charan under the banners of World Wide Films and C Cube Bros Entertainments, the film is directed by Dijo Jose Antony. Actress Kayadu Lohar plays the female lead.
With strong buzz surrounding it, Pallichattambi is slated for a massive theatrical release on April 10 across five languages—Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Ahead of its release, a grand press meet was held in Hyderabad, attended by noted producer and distributor Bunny Vas.
Speaking at the event, Bunny Vas shared his excitement about the project. He revealed that director Maruthi introduced him to the team.
“After interacting with them, I realized they were making a very prestigious film. When I visited Kochi and watched it, I was genuinely surprised. Seeing Telugu producers go to Kerala and mount such a grand project is remarkable. Technically, the film is very rich and visually impressive. For Telugu audiences, it will feel like a fresh commercial experience,” he said.
He also highlighted how Pallichattambi breaks the stereotype associated with Malayalam cinema.
“We usually perceive Malayalam films as concept-driven, but this is a full-fledged commercial entertainer. I strongly believe it will be a big success in Telugu as well,” he added.
Offering valuable advice to young producers, Bunny Vas made a striking observation about industry economics:
“If you’re planning to make a Telugu film, be extremely careful. The comfort you experience in Malayalam cinema doesn’t exist here. In fact, the theatrical revenue earned from a successful Malayalam film is often higher than that of a Telugu film. Producers there are quite satisfied with their theatrical returns,” he explained.
He also expressed happiness for Megha Shyam, who has been associated with his team for nearly a decade and is now working as an associate producer on this film. Recalling his experience with Tovino Thomas, Bunny Vas said:
“We released his film 2018 in Telugu, and it was a good success. His performance and action sequences in this film are outstanding—I even felt like I was watching Mohanlal garu on screen.”
Praising lead actress Kayadu Lohar, he noted her growing popularity among Telugu audiences:
“Kayadu already enjoys a strong fan base in the Telugu states with films like Dragon and Funky. With Pallichattambi, she is set to emerge as the next rising star here. Audiences will fall in love with her all over again.”
Bunny Vas concluded by appreciating the film’s craftsmanship:
“I was particularly impressed with the director’s vision and the film’s editing. If you want to experience a new-age commercial entertainer, Pallichattambi is a must-watch in theatres.”
He also touched upon the evolving nature of Indian cinema and upcoming projects:
“On April 8, coinciding with Allu Arjun’s birthday, the title and poster of his film with Atlee will be unveiled. Today, cinema has no language barriers—Telugu cinema has become truly global. We must bring more films from other languages into Telugu to strengthen distribution and the theatre system. That’s why I am committed to releasing diverse films here.”
