“Ghaati” Story: Anushka’s Powerful Role Revealed!
The countdown has begun for Anushka Shetty’s much-awaited film Ghaati, which is all set to hit the screens in just two days. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, this gripping drama is inspired by real-life incidents, with its narrative unfolding along the Andhra–Odisha border.

Who are the “Ghaatis”?
Ahead of the release, director Krish himself ended the suspense by offering insights into the story. He revealed that the film is set in the hilly regions of the Andhra–Odisha border, where a particular type of cannabis, called Sheelavathi, grows abundantly. The laborers who carry these loads across mountains are known as Ghaatis.
Krish explained that an entire world exists around these people—their culture, traditions, and way of life. Fascinated by their struggles and identity crisis, he felt compelled to bring their story to the big screen. The film revolves around the themes of identity, survival, and recognition.
Anushka’s Role as Leelavathi
According to Krish, Ghaati is packed with strong emotions and complex drama, told in a cinematic yet realistic manner. The idea was originally narrated by writer Chintakindi Srinivasa Rao, whose concept immediately struck a chord with Krish.
For the role of Leelavathi, Krish felt that Anushka Shetty’s grace, screen presence, and maturity perfectly suited the character, making her the ideal choice.
